Immersive Event Worlds
Fire Escape Summer
The roof is the backyard. A July supper on a legal city roof around one long striped table that always has room for one more chair: the room, the menu and the move.

The roof is the backyard.
This page is the World’s first editorial chapter. The free Field Guide previews its identity and scope; the paid World Package supplies the complete environment, floral, culinary, styling and production system. Links to finished guides and packages appear as those files become available.
The night
Not every summer comes with a lawn. Some come with a patch of legal roof, a courtyard that hoards the afternoon, and a folding table with one leg you should check twice. That is the summer most city people actually get, and it deserves a party.
This one starts while it is still too hot, which is the point. Before anybody is asked to admire anything, somebody hands them a cup of cold water, and then something frozen and pineapple-gold. The corn comes up the stairs twenty minutes later, already charred and buttered and rolled in salty cheese, and the radio comes on low as it lands. Nobody has a seat to find, because nobody has a seat assigned. People sit where they like along one long striped table, and the open end nearest the door has a folded chair leaning against the leg, waiting for whoever is late.
By the time the light goes gold, the sliders are on their second tray, a bottle of cold red with bubbles in it has been opened, a cousin has come up the stairs with a bag of limes and the chair has opened for her without a word. At sunset the string lights click on and the radio comes up one notch, and for a minute the whole roof looks as if it does this every Friday. Lemon ice comes last, in paper cups, and there is a mango in it nobody mentioned.
Then the radio goes off, everyone goes down the stairs the way they came up, and the roof is concrete again.
What the World Folio holds
- The Premium World Package: the roof written so a host can make it, from the way out to the last chair folded; the shade and the light at every hour; the menu and how it climbs six flights; the move, step by step; scale from a card table for two to a courtyard for 120; three budgets; what the wind takes first, and the fix.
- The Host Pack: the clock from three weeks out to the morning after, who does what, the roof map, the cue sheet, the make-ahead schedule, the production menu, what fails first, the strike, the shopping list and the rental and kitchen briefs, the printed pieces, the invite look card and the music.
- Alongside, at no cost: six Salt Notes recipes, one for each made item, and a Vanity or Vice look book on what to wear up the stairs. Each gets its link here on the day it goes live.
The room
Concrete Gray is the roof itself, and nobody disguises it. Tomato Red is on the painted chair frames, the woven stripe of the heavy cream cotton, the geraniums and the host. Cobalt is the other chair color, and the one waiting at the open end. Marigold is the umbrella, the pale gold of the freeze and the marigold zinnias; Zinnia Magenta is the market flowers in their pails and the last of the sky; Leafy Green is basil, geranium leaves, nasturtiums and one chile plant in terracotta pots along the parapet;Galvanized Silver is the tub and its scoop. The light is the sun until it isn’t: hard and white at arrival, gold across the cloth at supper, one run of string lights after sunset, and pillar candles glowing in hurricane lanterns down the line. The music is one radio. You will notice the open end of the table. Formality is 2 of 5. The wrong version is a rooftop lounge with black sofas, a neon slogan and the skyline as the guest of honor.
The table
| On the menu | What it is |
|---|---|
| Not on the Fire Escape | A thick pineapple freeze with rum, lime, and a little trouble. (VG · GF · DF) |
| The Legal Freeze | The same freeze, louder lime, and nothing to declare; the glass with the salty half. (0% · VG · GF · DF) |
| Corn With the Radio On | Charred, chile-hot, and a little vain about its lime. (V · GF) |
| The Slider That Took the Stairs | Pernil-style pork and pickled onion in a soft roll with no costume attached. (GF on lettuce on request) |
| The Slider That Took the Stairs — mushroom | Garlic-roasted oyster mushrooms on the same tray, so nobody makes a speech about it. (V · VG on a dairy-free roll) |
| Italian Ice With a Record Scratch | Lemon ice that suddenly remembers it met a mango. (VG · GF · DF) |
The Lambrusco rides up in the ice tub and opens when the sliders land. The six recipes are being written up for Salt Notes, and the names in this table will turn into links as each one is posted.
Who it is for
For summer birthdays, graduations, reunions and casual wedding welcomes, for adults, on a legal roof, a courtyard or a patio with one good corner. Skip it if your only outdoor space is a fire escape or an unapproved roof, if small children are on the list, or if you want the night to turn into a club.
Not on this page
The clock, the cue sheet, the roof map, the recipe methods, the shopping list, the budgets, the scale plans and how the chair actually opens. They live in the Folio.
Look book
How to show up for Fire Escape Summer is coming to Vanity or Vice: one roof color worn with conviction, and shoes that have met stairs.
Nobody sets foot on the fire escape, and nothing in this world borrows a neighborhood as a costume.

Atmosphere OS · Theme Atelier
A palette is not yet a decision.
Atmosphere OS holds the color, the material, the light and the room in one object, so moving any of them shows you what it does to the rest. Costs come back as indicative bands and never as quotes, which is the difference between planning and pretending.

Field notes and corrections
When a number here turns out to be wrong, you hear about it.
Three things arrive and nothing else. The new field note — bar rates, cover widths, service clearances, the arithmetic worked through on one real evening. A line when a new World or Mini Occasion opens, because a night only goes up once it can actually be thrown. And a correction whenever a rule in the published rulebook changes, or a number the tools rely on turns out to have been wrong. There is no weekly slot, because there is nothing weekly to put in it.
One email per field note or opening, plus corrections when a published figure moves. Unsubscribe from any of them.

What you have to decide next
One decision constrains the next. This is the order they actually happen in.
- Venue Will this room hold it? The Serpentine Table Is Eleven Percent Longer Than the Spec Sheet Says
- Guest experience How will guests move through it? The Place Setting Fits. The Person Does Not.
- Production How does it get built and run? The Event Needs a Failure Mode That Still Looks Intentional
- Vendors Who owns each handoff?
